themes
The themes of IDEASS are related to the main aspects of the sustainable and participative territorial development: participative governance, promotion of rights and women's empowerment; protection and sustainable management of natural resources, biodiversity and landscape; enhancement of cultural heritage and traditional knowledge; sustainable development of health, social and educational services at different levels; inclusive development of the local economy through production chains and integrated services for local producers; promotion of local agro-ecological systems; management of efficient and sustainable transport systems; production of renewable energy.
IDEASS also aims at promoting initiatives enhancing the great heritage of traditional knowledge and technologies that the communities used in the past to tackle their complex problems, in harmony with nature and local culture. These traditional practices are being retrieved in many countries thanks to the contribution of national and local governments, universities, specialized centers, experts from different disciplines and the owners of traditional knowledge. These practices, once systematized into scientific knowledge and methodological protocols become optimized and replicable solutions, attractive to new generations, capable of contributing to a more sustainable development in the modern era.
The programme is inspired by the commitments of the international community to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 United Nations Agenda, and by the guidelines of some global thematic initiatives promoted by the United Nations:
Sustainable Development Goals - Knowledge Platform
UN Decade of Family Farming 2019-2028
UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration 2021-2030.
United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change
International Decade for Action on
Water for Sustainable Development, 2018-2028
United Nations Alliance for Sustainable Fashion
International Year of Indigenous Languages 2019
United Nations Decade on Biodiversity 2011-2020
International Year of Sustainable Tourism 2017
IDEASS is also inspired by the orientations of Circular Economy promoted by the European Union. Even though these initiatives are addressed to the European countries, the principles, methodologies and tools of Circular Economy represent an important contribution to innovatively solve problems that are faced all around the world.
