In Guatemala, the National Council of Science and Technology has organized the National Competition of Innovations for Human Development. At the end of the Competition, started 23 of November 2004 and concluded 21 of January 2005, a ceremony has been organized to reward the best innovations presented.

Saturday 18 December 2004 “Scritto & Mangiato”, supplement of Italian newspaper “Il Manifesto”, has published an article, written by Marina Forti, about Ideass initiative. In particular Stabilak, Natural Dehydration of Lemons and uses of Jicaro tree are described as interesting innovations available to be transferred in other countries, in the framework of Ideass initiative.

The National Council of Science and Technology, CONCYT, in collaboration with United Nations Development Program, UNDP, and the University of San Carlos de Guatemala, has organized a public meeting named “National Week of Science, Technology and Innovation” (Semana Nacional de Ciencia, Tecnología y Innovación) for the 19th, 20th and 21st of January 2005. The Guatemalan newspaper “Diario de Centro América” has dedicated an article to this event.

In Cuba, the mission of experts of ARPAT (Toscana Region, Italy) is being organized for the promotion of the Constructed Wetlands. The mission, planned for November 2004, consists of different activities in the provinces of Granma and Guantanamo, in collaboration with Centro de Investigaciones para la Montaña of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment and the Academy of Science of Cuba.
